Henderson is ideally located, with recreational activities such as golfing, fishing, skiing, hiking, biking, camping and sight-seeing available year-round. Lake Mead is just a mile from Henderson and consists of 500 miles of shoreline. This lake is the largest manmade lake in the world. Lake Mead offers great opportunities for boating, sailing, jet skiing, fishing, water skiing, camping and windsurfing. Hoover Dam, the largest in the Western Hemisphere, created Lake Mead.
A 45-minute drive north to Mt. Charleston offers residents the opportunity to snow ski from November to April at Lee Canyon. Hiking, camping and other activities can also be enjoyed at Mt. Charleston year-round.
Henderson Parks & Recreation
The City of Henderson, through its nationally acclaimed Parks and Recreation Department, provides residents more parks and recreation facilities per capita than any other community in Southern Nevada. The City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is one of only 13 agencies throughout the country to earn both accreditation by the National Recreation and Park Association (2001) and the National Gold Medal for Excellence in Parks and recreation Administration (1999). Due to award-winning sports programs, Henderson was named the Sports Illustrated 50th Anniversary "Sportstown" for the state of Nevada. The City has over 40 parks covering more than 1,000 acres, including 62 ball fields, 40 tennis courts, 2 indoor swimming pools and 7 outdoor swimming pools. There are more than 57 linear miles of trails within the City, including the River Mountains Loop, Pittman Wash, and Boulder Highway Trails, with more planned. When complete, the trails system will include more than 200 miles of on-street bicycle facilities, share-use paths and equestrian trails. The City has 6 recreation facilities offering racquetball, volleyball, aerobic classes, indoor climbing walls, treadmills, and other fitness equipment, along with planned activities for people of all ages. The Henderson Pavilion at Liberty Pointe is the City's premier outdoor performing arts facility. The Civic Center Plaza, now under construction, will provide another venue for Henderson residents to enjoy the arts.

Cultural Events
The City of Henderson provides a variety of cultural events throughout the entire year. From ArtFest to the Henderson Civic Symphony; Missoula Children's Theatre to Concerts in the Park; and from the Made in Nevada Art Fair to the Annual Shakespeare in the Park; there's something for all ages. The Henderson Pavilion at Liberty Pointe, the largest outdoor amphitheater in Nevada and the first of its kind in Southern Nevada, is the newest venue for cultural performances at reasonable prices. Bird Viewing Preserve
The City of Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve is home to more than 200 species of birds, including water fowl, wading, and birds of prey. This showcase facility provides an opportunity to view and learn about birds, to create a habitat for resident, migrating and nesting birds and to understand the wastewater treatment and ecology process. The Bird Viewing Preserve is located at 2400B Moser, off Sunset Road east of Boulder Highway. It is open daily for self-guided tours from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and admission is free. Clark County Museum
The Clark County Museum, located at 1830 S. Boulder Highway, takes visitors back through the history of the county. A collection of historic homes, restored to recreate the lifestyles of the important periods in local history. The museum is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. Henderson Senior Center
The Henderson Senior Center, located at 27 E. Texas Avenue, provides daily leisure activities and instructional classes, excursions, monthly workshops, education/health seminars volunteer opportunities, social services information and referral assistance and various cultural and special events.
